Gordy's Country Market was established in 1966 in Chippewa Falls by Gordon (Gordy) and Donna Schafer. The Schafer Family wanted to offer a local grocery store to meet the specific needs of the people of the Chippewa Valley with fresh products, low prices, and friendly service. Today, Gordy is retired and his children, Jeff, David, Richard and Jennifer, manage the family business. Over the years, the business has grown and now includes 12 grocery stores, 3 with gas stations. The stores are in Chippewa Falls (2), Eau Claire (3), Ladysmith, Cornell, Augusta, Rice Lake, Chetek, Shell Lake and Neillsville.
In 2013, Gordy’s County Market expanded into the Rice Lake, WI market. With the help of an SBA 504 loan provided by WBD and financing through Charter Bank, they were able to purchase he necessary equipment for a leased facility (former K-Mart). The new location will provide the Rice Lake area with approximately 50 new jobs.
This was the 3rd 504 loan provided by WBD for Gordy's; a REFI application was approved in September 2012 and a real estate purchase for one of their Eau Claire locations was approved in October 2012.
